“How To Treat Yourself Every Day This Week” – My Take


While casually scrolling through my favorite blog, Into the Gloss, I stumbled upon “How To Treat Yourself Every Day This Week,” which is Or Gotham’s take on how he maintains his sanity through a crazy work week both mentally and physically. I decided to share with you my take on it… (fair warning, I’m extra…. But it’s worth it) I mean, who doesn’t deserve some TLC every. single. day. We all have our own crazy lives, and it’s important to step away and take some time for yourself, before you bury yourself in shit too far down to come back.

Gotham’s plan involves a “life-or-appearance-enhancing treatment every day for a week. Even if they’re a minute,” seems do-able, right? Try to stop yourself from flopping on the couch and instead, taking some time for yourself, you know you won’t regret it.


AKA Self-care Sunday people!!! I usually commute home to Long Island on the weekends, leaving me exhausted by the time that I get back to Brooklyn. I’ll light a candle, unpack, and take a warm shower. On Sunday’s I like to focus on getting my body to feel refreshed by morning. Right now, my favorite body wash is Tea Tringle Tingle from Trader Joe’s (it’s wayyy overpriced online compared to in store). This wash has tea tree oil, eucalyptus, and other refreshing AND relaxing oils that leave your body feeling clean AF post shower. While I’m in there, I like to exfoliate my legs and arms with coffee scrub, which helps the skin to feel invigorated.WH-aloe-vera1Post shower, I slather on my skin care, and while that soaks in, I use Thayer’s Witch Hazel toner pads on my upper back and middle of my chest where I sometimes encounter a breakout from the gym. I also like to use this on my arms and legs, to get my skin extra clean. Finally, I seal it all in with Kiehl’s Crème de Corps, and occasionally a body oil on top when I’m feeling EXTRA extra.

Then I hop into bed and crack open whatever book I’m reading at that time which is currently non-existent (help… I need book recommendations!), but Netflix will definitely suffice.


Ugh… Monday’s. I have class early in the morning so I don’t have much time then, but I leave myself plenty of time after class to both get work done, and do my Mask because it’s Monday!! (haha see what I did there… kidding I didn’t make this up it’s already a thing).


Whatever mask I choose varies on how my skin is feeling at that current moment. One of my go-to’s whenever my skin is feeling EH is Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance mask. It’s great for when your skin is feeling dull, like after a long weekend, or when you just want a little extra exfoliation.

So, I’ll light a candle, sit back and mask. Another thing I like to add on is a heated eye mask. This helps your eyes feel a lot better after being strained staring at the computer. You can also pop them in the freezer to help your eyes wake up.


I told myself I’d make an effort to incorporate healthier efforts in my weekly routine like doing cleanses or taking wellness shots. On Tuesday’s this is my day for Activate Charcoal supplements. Pop a capsule or two into a water bottle and shake it to reveal your new black drink… but I promise it will do you all well and no harm. Activate charcoal helps to remove toxins from the body that can be from pesticides in foods, chemicals in body products, as well as pollutants from the air you breathe.


Well removing toxins, it helps to increase energy levels, improve mental function, and support your immune system, helping you stay away from sickness. It can also help bloating and gas, and reduce high cholesterol!

Whatever toxins are in your body, are going to show in your skin since the skin is the body’s largest organ. This well help your skin be as clear and glowing as ever! *cries of joy*


Another day…. Another face mask. During the summer, I’ll do masks about every other night, but since the winter has been well… cold…. I alternate masks and sheet masks. Sheet masks are a cotton sheet soaked in serum with eyes, nose, and mouth parts cut out. They really help to deliver hydration to your skin as well as push the product in since it’s a lot of product actually sitting on your skin for 20-30 minutes. There’s millions of different kinds of sheet masks, most are relatively cheap, so it’s easy to find one that works with your skin concerns as well as your pocket.


Tip: warming up your sheet masks helps to open up your pores and really let the mask soak in. You

You literally cannot move your face with these one so don’t even bother leaving your room or bathroom to go have conversation because it WILL slip off of your face and you will not get the most out of it, a nicer way of saying what’s the point then? So, turn on some good music, lay back, relax, and let the mask soak.


I treat my hair like it’s my baby, and give it a 30-minute shower amount of attention. After a day or of not washing my hair, I result in ponytails and buns with dry shampoo and hair spray. After my hair taking a beating like this, it needs that 30-minute shower amount of attention.74495.jpgI like to start off with a good scalp scrub to really get everything and stop my scalp from itching. After rinsing this out and shampooing, I sub in a hair mask instead of conditioner. This helps to repair my hair and get it feeling really soft. I always hair dry my hair, and like to use Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)air Styler. This helps to give a lil extra oomph to my natural hair.


After a long week, I like to give myself a rest day and instead keep it simple and spot treat before I go to sleep. After cleansing, I’ll roll one of my two roller balls across my nose to get those pesky blackheads and also over any pimples that may be raising to the surface.

Saturday night skincare is like my pregame for Sunday. I like to relax with a hydrating sheet mask and drink a ton of lemon water. If I’m not going out with friends, I really like to stay in and relax and clear my mind. Hydrating from the inside out, as well as physically hydrating my skin really helps to keep my skin glowing.

I don’t get too fancy with my skincare on the weekends since I am usually commuting home so I don’t have all of my products with me. But hey, doing something is better than nothing am I right??

It’s my promise to myself to stick to this routine as much as possible this week and all that follow. I encourage everyone to make their own variations for some self care!!
